Firefly, the Largest Annual Earthskills Gathering in the World, Starts June 29

Firefly Gathering 2017, the largest earth-skills gathering in the world, will be held in Leicester, North Carolina, June 29-July 2. The gathering offers classes teaching emergency survival, building an off-grid home, gardening and permaculture, and useful trades such as working with metals and leather.

Eight classes will be offered (two per day) with over a hundred classes to choose from; class registration will occur upon arrival.

Course categories include: Plant Medicine and Food; Permaculture and Gardening; Natural Parenting; Fire, Metal, and Stone; Homesteading / Survivalism; Natural Building and Appropriate Technology for Living Off-Grid; Animal Husbandry; Martial Arts; Bushcraft and Campcraft; Crafts in Basketry, Fibers, Leatherwork, Clothing, and Making Natural Dyes. In addition to the adult classes, Firefly has Cooperative Childcare for ages 18 months-7 years, Kids Classes for ages 8-12, and a Teen Camp for ages 13-18.

Evening entertainment of stories, music, dance, and fellowship will be provided.

Admission is limited, and tickets are available online until 11:59 PM Monday, June 26. If tickets are not sold out, they will be available for purchase at the gate with cash, check or money order while supplies last. Four day passes include camping, admission to all eight classes, and evening entertainment. Two day passes include camping for one night and admission to four classes. One-day passes include admission to two classes.

Firefly Gathering works on a sliding-scale basis and costs less for individuals with low-income. The gathering asks that you pay more if you can and use the sliding scale accordingly when purchasing tickets. Donations are appreciated and scholarships are awarded. Children under 8 are free.

Firefly Gathering is hosted by Wild Abundance, LLC. Wild Abundance is located near Asheville, NC. They offer year-round courses in homesteading, foraging and cooking, primitive skill, permatcuture, and natural building.
